Why this spot

1880-1906 gold mining camp and stage stop

Mining camp that grew after the Gambetta Mine opened in 1880 and held up to five thousand people from the mid-1880s to the late 1890s, with two hotels and five saloons and 24 mines nearby; Theodore Roosevelt called it a bully town in 1903. The last mine closed in 1906, the Yosemite stage route moved to the railroad in 1907, and the town burned in 1920.View source →
