Why this spot
1849-1850s gold rush trade town
Gold rush camp on Fremont's Rancho Las Mariposas that became Mariposa County's first seat of justice in 1850, with a hotel, express office, bowling alley, gambling halls and about a dozen stores. It lost the county seat to Mariposa in 1854, burned and was not rebuilt, and its post office closed in 1862.View source →
