Why this spot

1854 iron furnace to 1960s farm settlement

Named Iron Mountain after an 1854 furnace that ran on and off until the late 1860s, the place became Tharpe in 1886 and by 1915 had a store, school, church, gin, clinic, gristmill, sawmills and a tobacco factory. It declined in the Depression and became part of Land Between the Lakes.View source →
