1920s-1977 Everglades frontier settlement
Far from the county seat in Key West, this Loop Road settlement drew lawless types and people living off alligators, fish and frogs, and Al Capone was said to own a house here. Hurricanes and the Depression mostly emptied it, and the Gator Hook saloon lasted until 1977.View source →
