Why this spot

1857-1865 Bleeding Kansas free-state town

Moneka was founded by abolitionists in 1857 with an academy and a hotel used by free-state leaders, and John Brown stayed at Augustus Wattles' home there in 1858 and 1859. The town reached about 200 people in 1858, then dwindled and was abandoned around 1864 or 1865.View source →
