Why this spot

1859-1960 river farm town

Irving was founded in 1859 on the Big Blue River, survived drought, grasshoppers, deadly 1879 tornadoes and floods, and had about 403 people with a bank, newspaper and schools in 1910. The federal government forced residents out for the Tuttle Creek Lake project and the townsite was abandoned in 1960, although the water never reached it.View source →
