Under Scots bona vacantia and Treasure Trove ALL finds of any age can be Crown property and MUST be reported to the Treasure Trove Unit at the Crown Office, a stricter rule than England. The harbour and bay foreshore are tidal Crown Estate Scotland; the Wick river banks are largely private and need the landowner's permission.
