BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: Scotland · Europe · approx. 57.69, -2.0 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: Victorian bottle era, Ordnance Survey mapped

What turns up: Herring-boom dump: stoneware ginger-beer bottles, aerated-water and soda bottles from local bottlers, black-glass whisky, ale and porter bottles, Codd and Hamilton sodas, clay pipes and ships' glass around the harbour and Broadsea shore; dense late-Victorian and Edwardian fishing-era refuse.

Access: Gray area.

Scotland's report-everything rule applies: any object of any age can belong to the Crown under bona vacantia and Treasure Trove and MUST be reported to the Treasure Trove Unit at the Crown Office, unlike England. The harbour and bay foreshore is tidal Crown Estate Scotland, so permission is needed before searching.
