Woodward (North Canadian River and Santa Fe railhead)

BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: Oklahoma · approx. 36.43, -99.39 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: 1890s+ Sanborn-mapped town on North Canadian River

What turns up: North Canadian bottomland near the old stockyards and crossing and privy pits behind the original Main Street blocks; expect 1890s to 1910s hutch sodas, whiskey and druggist bottles, stoneware shards, cattle-town hardware, and cartridge cases in eroding banks and fill.

Access: Gray area.

The North Canadian River bed below the ordinary high-water mark is state-owned public trust land where artifact removal is restricted. The area sits in the former Cheyenne and Arapaho country of northwest Oklahoma; any tribal or allotment land requires separate tribal permission. Townsite uplands are usually private and need the landowner's permission. State law protects archaeological sites and unmarked burials.
