Wetumpka (Coosa River)

BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: Alabama · approx. 32.54, -86.21 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: 1880s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Straddles the Coosa River just above its junction with the Tallapoosa, at the fall line where river navigation ended.

What turns up: Fall-line trade-town glass: patent medicines, bitters, whiskey flasks, and blob and Hutchinson sodas along both riverbanks, with local stoneware.

Access: Gray area.

Alabama framing: the Coosa River bed below the ordinary high-water mark is state-owned public-trust land where artifact removal is restricted; the townsite banks and uplands are generally private and need the owner's permission; state law protects archaeological sites and unmarked burials.
