Why this spot: 1900s+ Sanborn-mapped town on North Canadian River
What turns up: North Canadian bottoms near the old crossing and privy zones behind the original Main and Noble street blocks; expect early 1900s to 1910s aqua and amber bottles, hutch sodas, patent-medicine bottles, and stoneware shards in eroding banks and refuse pits.
Access: Gray area.
The North Canadian River bed below the ordinary high-water mark is state-owned public trust land where artifact removal is restricted. Watonga lies within former Cheyenne and Arapaho land, and tribal or allotment land requires separate tribal permission. Townsite uplands are usually private and need the landowner's permission. State law protects archaeological sites and unmarked burials.
