Why this spot: 1890s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Arkansas River
What turns up: The old Arkansas River ford, ferry and later bridge approach west of the original townsite, plus privy and dump zones behind the first First Street and Main Street blocks; expect 1890s to 1910s aqua and amber bottles, hutch sodas, druggist bottles, clay pipes, and early oil-era hardware in eroded cutbanks and fill.
Access: Gray area.
The Arkansas River bed below the ordinary high-water mark is state-owned public trust land where artifact removal is restricted. Tulsa is within the Muscogee (Creek) Nation reservation; tribal and individual allotment land requires separate tribal permission. Urban townsite parcels are private and need the landowner's permission, and much riverfront is public park land with its own rules. State law protects archaeological sites and unmarked burials.
