BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: Maryland · approx. 39.6, -76.11 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: 1890s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Lower Susquehanna River just above the head of the Chesapeake Bay; granite and lumber rafting port.

What turns up: Rafting, granite-quarry, and river-port debris pinned between the bluff and the Susquehanna: stoneware, clay pipes, and embossed local druggist, soda, and beer bottles along the single main street and old wharf frontage.

Access: Gray area.

The lower Susquehanna riverbed below mean high water is state public-trust bottom where removing historic artifacts is restricted; state law protects submerged archaeological resources. The narrow town strip and quarry uplands are private and require permission.
