BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: Texas · approx. 29.89, -93.94 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: 1900s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Sabine Lake and the Sabine-Neches ship canal, opening to the Gulf of Mexico

What turns up: Early ship-canal and lakefront dumps with turn-of-the-century bottles from a planned deepwater port town; privy pits behind the young commercial district holding beer, soda, and patent-medicine bottles predating and during the early oil-refining era

Access: Gray area.

Sabine Lake and the tidewater canal are state-owned submerged land, and artifact removal from them is restricted under the Antiquities Code of Texas; the Open Beaches Act gives public access to Gulf beaches but not the right to remove historic artifacts. Townsite uplands are private and need the landowner's permission.
