Pine Bluff (Jefferson County)

BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: Arkansas · approx. 34.23, -92.0 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: 1880s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Arkansas River

What turns up: Large Arkansas River cotton port on a high bluff. The old riverfront, cotton belt commercial blocks and back alleys should produce mid-1880s and earlier bottles, black glass, stoneware, clay pipes and trade tokens.

Access: Gray area.

The Arkansas River bed below ordinary high water mark is state public trust land where artifact removal is restricted; the bluff, wharf and downtown lots are privately or municipally held and need permission. State law protects archaeological sites and unmarked graves.
