Where: Florida · approx. 30.42, -87.22 (vicinity only)
Why this spot: 1880s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Pensacola Bay and the Gulf of Mexico; deepwater harbor at the mouth of the Escambia River system
What turns up: Deep colonial and military port with a dense 1880s-1900s waterfront district. Expect Hutchinson sodas, whiskey and beer flasks, clay pipes, Spanish and US territorial-era coins, and ship-chandler and saloon dumps in the old Palafox and Seville waterfront blocks.
Access: Gray area.
Florida framing: the bay bottom and the coastal tidelands below the mean high-water line are state-owned sovereignty submerged land, and removing historic artifacts there is restricted; Florida law strongly protects archaeological and historical resources on state land. The townsite uplands are usually private and need the current landowner's permission. State law protects unmarked human burials. Confirm the exact ownership line before digging near the shore.
