BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: West Virginia · approx. 39.27, -81.56 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: 1880s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Ohio River at the mouth of the Little Kanawha

What turns up: Glass and oil-boom city at a two-river junction, expect early sodas, bitters, druggist bottles, oil-era whiskey flasks and stoneware along the Ohio and Little Kanawha banks.

Access: Gray area.

Both the Ohio and Little Kanawha beds below ordinary high-water mark are state-owned public land with restricted artifact removal, so work only the dry banks. Riverbank and upland parcels are private and need permission, and West Virginia protects archaeological sites and unmarked burials by law.
