BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: Utah · approx. 40.65, -111.5 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: 1880s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Steep gulch camp draining to Silver Creek and the upper Weber, ringed by mine-scarred canyons

What turns up: Prime silver-camp bottle ground: 1880s-1900s whiskey flasks, beer and ale bottles, embossed sodas, patent-medicine and mining-supply glass, boarding-house ceramics, and steep hillside and privy dumps below the Main Street saloon row shown on the 1889 and 1900 sheets.

Access: Gray area.

Much of the camp sits on patented mining claims and private townsite parcels that require the owner's permission; surrounding unpatented and federal ground is subject to the Archaeological Resources Protection Act protecting sites over 100 years old; there is little navigable water here, so the public-trust riverbed restriction is minor.
