Where: Oklahoma · approx. 35.62, -95.96 (vicinity only)
Why this spot: 1890s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Deep Fork of the Canadian River
What turns up: Creek bottoms and mill sites along the Deep Fork below town and the privy zones behind the original square around the Creek Council House; expect 1890s to 1910s medicine and soda bottles, stoneware shards, trade tokens, and household debris in eroding banks and old refuse pits.
Access: Gray area.
The Deep Fork bed below the ordinary high-water mark is state-owned public trust land where artifact removal is restricted. Okmulgee is the capital of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation; tribal and allotment land requires separate tribal permission, and the Council House area is a protected historic site. Townsite uplands are usually private and need the landowner's permission. State law protects archaeological sites and unmarked burials.
