North Platte (forks of the Platte)

BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: Nebraska · approx. 41.12, -100.77 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: 1880s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Platte River at the junction of the North Platte and South Platte rivers

What turns up: Union Pacific end-of-track and division-town refuse from the late 1860s onward; expect saloon whiskey flasks, sodas and beers, and railroad-worker household bottles near the old yards and first-generation Front Street lots.

Access: Gray area.

The riverbeds below the ordinary high-water mark are state public trust land with restricted artifact removal; the townsite and banks are private and need the landowner's permission. Archaeological sites and unmarked burials are protected by state law.
