Why this spot: 1880s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Winooski River and North Branch confluence
What turns up: State capital built at the Winooski and North Branch junction with an 1884 Sanborn. Flood-scoured riverbanks near the confluence regularly expose old glass; work the back lots behind State and Main and the mill fringes for blob sodas, medicines and stoneware.
Access: Gray area.
The bed of the Winooski River below the ordinary high-water mark is state public-trust land where artifact removal is restricted; riverbank lots and downtown parcels are private or state-owned and need permission. State law protects archaeological sites and unmarked burials.
