Where: Georgia · approx. 32.84, -83.63 (vicinity only)
Why this spot: 1880s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Ocmulgee River
What turns up: Pontiled and applied-lip medicines, local Hutchinson and blob-top sodas, whiskey flasks, and stoneware from the surrounding pottery belt along the Ocmulgee riverbank at the foot of the downtown blocks and around the old steamboat and cotton-warehouse landings below Fifth Street.
Access: Gray area.
The Ocmulgee River bed below the ordinary high-water mark is state-owned public-trust land where removing historic artifacts is restricted; the riverbank and warehouse lots are private and need the owner's permission; Georgia law protects archaeological sites and any unmarked graves.
