Why this spot: 1890s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Canadian River, directly opposite Purcell
What turns up: The east bank of the Canadian at the old ferry and bridge crossing and privy zones behind the first business blocks; expect 1890s to early 1900s aqua bottles, patent-medicine and soda bottles, stoneware shards, and clay pipe fragments in eroding riverbank soil.
Access: Gray area.
The Canadian River bed below the ordinary high-water mark is state-owned public trust land where artifact removal is restricted. Lexington sits at the edge of former Unassigned Lands near the Chickasaw Nation boundary; any tribal or allotment land requires separate tribal permission. Townsite uplands are usually private and need the landowner's permission. State law protects archaeological sites and unmarked burials.
