Greenwich Cove waterfront

BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: Rhode Island · approx. 41.64, -71.46 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: 1880s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Greenwich Cove on the west shore of Narragansett Bay

What turns up: A colonial packet and fishing port on a steep waterfront. Below Main Street and along the cove wharves expect sealed black-glass bottles, pontiled medicines and flasks, clay pipes, creamware and pearlware, and later blob-top sodas and beers.

Access: Gray area.

Rhode Island reserves public rights along the shore, and tidelands and navigable-water beds are state public-trust land where artifact removal is restricted. Cove-side uplands are typically private and need the owner's permission. State law protects archaeological sites and unmarked burials.
