Brownsville (near Hatchie River)

BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: Tennessee · approx. 35.59, -89.26 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: 1880s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Hatchie River bottoms just west of town, with local creeks draining to the Hatchie

What turns up: Old landing and creek banks toward the Hatchie, plus back-lot privies behind the 1880s square: hand-blown bottles, stoneware, clay pipes, and 1880s to 1900s dump glass and intact medicine and soda bottles.

Access: Gray area.

The Hatchie streambed below the ordinary high-water mark is state public-trust bottomland restricting artifact removal; the town center and river bottoms are private and need permission. Archaeological sites and unmarked graves are protected.
