BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: Utah · approx. 41.51, -112.02 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: 1880s+ Sanborn-mapped town on At the mouth of Box Elder Canyon on Box Elder Creek, just east of the Bear River Bay marshes of Great Salt Lake

What turns up: 1880s-1900s townsite refuse: local druggist and bottling-works bottles, cooperative-mercantile stoneware, brewery and soda glass, and creek-bank and back-lot dumps behind the Main Street blocks on the 1884 and 1890 sheets.

Access: Gray area.

Box Elder Creek and any navigable Bear River bay bed below the ordinary high-water mark are state public-trust land with restrictions on removing historic material; town parcels are private and need owner permission; the nearby federal marsh and refuge land falls under the Archaeological Resources Protection Act for sites over 100 years old.
