BOTTLE DIGGING GRAY AREA CONFIRMED

Where: Georgia · approx. 30.9, -84.58 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: 1880s+ Sanborn-mapped town on Flint River

What turns up: Applied-lip whiskeys, blob-top and Hutchinson sodas, druggist and patent-medicine bottles, and stoneware and naval-stores jugs along the Flint River wharves below the town and around the old boat landings where cotton and timber were shipped toward the Apalachicola.

Access: Gray area.

The Flint River bed below the ordinary high-water mark is state-owned public-trust bottom where artifact removal is restricted; the wharf and riverbank lots are private and require the landowner's consent; state law protects archaeological sites and unmarked burials.
