Gwalia WA: Sons of Gwalia ghost town

BOTTLE DIGGING RESTRICTED DOCUMENTED

Where: Australia · Oceania · approx. -28.92, 121.33 (vicinity only)

Why this spot: Company town of the Sons of Gwalia mine (1897-1963, once managed by Herbert Hoover), emptied almost overnight when the mine closed in December 1963

What turns up: eyes-only: furnished abandoned cottages, State Hotel, mine headframe, bottle and tin scatter through the townsite

Access: Restricted.

The historic precinct is a managed heritage site and museum, everything in and around the cottages stays put, detecting the surrounding goldfields requires a WA Miner's Right and ground open to prospecting, not the townsite
