Why this spot

1831-1920s Morris Canal service village

Halfway stop on the 102-mile Morris Canal with an inn, general store, church, blacksmith shop for canal mules and a watermill, where boatmen stopped overnight. Traffic, mostly anthracite, peaked in the late 1860s and then moved to the railroads; the canal was formally abandoned in 1924 and the village was deserted by its owners by the Great Depression.View source →
