Why this spot
1907-1943 company coal town
Coal town built in 1907 by the Anaconda company's Washoe Coal Co. that shipped 1,200 tons a day to the Anaconda smelters and reached about 3,000 people. The 1943 Smith Mine disaster, Montana's worst, and the loss of the railroad finished it; the post office closed in 1959.View source →
