Why this spot

1880s-1920s mineral spring resort

Spring resort laid out around 1900 by Darius Hicks with the three-story Capitol Hotel, stores, a blacksmith, a racetrack, a carousel and a school, after crowds up to 2,000 gathered at the spring in the 1880s. With no rail line it never prospered, and after Hicks left in 1903 it was effectively abandoned by the 1920s despite later revivals.View source →
