Why this spot

1883-1966 sulfur mining company town

Sulfur was found here south of Cove Fort in 1870 and mined at scale from 1883, with 30 company homes, a school, store and offices, and freighters hauling sulfur to the railroad at Black Rock. The last mill shut in 1966 and the town was empty by the end of the 1970s; a geothermal plant was later built in the area.View source →
