Why this spot

1854-1957 placer and hydraulic gold camp

Gold-rush town founded in 1854 on Sterling Creek that topped 1,500 people, with stores, a casino, a dance hall and saloons. The 1877 Sterling Ditch fed the largest hydraulic mine in Oregon; mining revived from 1933 to 1957, after which the town was abandoned and destroyed.View source →
