Why this spot
1861-1868 silver boomtown
Silver camp in the Star Mining District that peaked at 1,200 people in 1864 to 1865 with two hotels, a Wells Fargo office, a church and over a dozen saloons; its Sheba Mine produced about $5 million. The ore ran out in 1868 and the town collapsed so fast that the mail and telegraph were still running for a single family; 78 people remained by 1871.View source →
