Why this spot

1840s-1940s planters' prairie village

Planters moved up from the flood-prone Brazos bottoms in the 1840s to found Pittsville, named for storekeepers A. R. and Amanda Pitts, and it was a commercial center of about 240 people by 1860, with Confederate units camping nearby. A new railroad to the south in 1888 and the founding of Fulshear drew it away, and the last residents left in 1947.View source →
