Why this spot
1873-1917 lumbering and railroad village
Lumber town that grew around George Cheney's sawmill on the Michigan Central line, with a store, mills, a hotel and post office, about 1,500 people in the mid-1870s and a brief term as county seat. Diphtheria outbreaks in 1893 and 1897 and the loss of the county seat to Grayling left 18 people by 1917, when the land was auctioned off.View source →
