Why this spot
1850s gold rush camp and ski-racing site
Gold rush camp and supply station at the foot of Pilot Peak that may have held 1,500 people in 1851 with six hotels, saloons and a bowling alley. It shrank to 120 settlers by 1853 and 23 by 1880, and is remembered for organized ski races held there from 1861.View source →
