Why this spot

about 1798-1825 Natchez Trace town and county seat

The largest town on the old Natchez Trace and Jefferson County seat from 1802 to 1825, with a tavern, Abijah Hunt's store and the county's first cotton gin, and several hundred people at its height. A mob wrecked the courthouse the night before the 1825 vote, the seat went to Fayette, and the town disappeared.View source →
