Why this spot

1840-1927 plantation and river landing

A Mississippi River plantation landing settled in 1840, with a post office by 1880, a ferry and about 50 residents in 1886. The levee here broke on April 21, 1927, starting the Great Mississippi Flood and killing at least 100 prisoners forced to sandbag it.View source →
