Why this spot

1876-1930s oilfield town

Oil town in Pico Canyon built around Pico No. 4, the first commercially successful oil well in California, with homes, a school, boarding houses, a machine shop and no saloon. It held over 200 people around 1900 and emptied in the 1930s as output fell and residents carried their houses away.View source →
