Why this spot

about 1860-1957 logging and railroad hamlet

A mountain settlement above the Nolichucky River with about 100 people at its height, 13 to 15 houses, two sawmills and a chapel that doubled as a school, living on logging, the railroad, moonshine and farming. When the trains stopped and no road was built, people drifted away until the last family left in 1957.View source →
