Why this spot

1891-1980s railroad helper and logging town

Founded in 1891 as a logging camp, it became a Northern Pacific company town at the foot of the Stampede Pass grade with a depot, roundhouse and coal dock, peaking near 1,000 people in the 1920s. Tacoma bought land to protect its water supply, the last logging camp closed in 1978 and the rail line was mothballed in 1984.View source →
