Why this spot

1918-1957 rock asphalt company town

Built by the Kentucky Rock Asphalt Company on the Nolin River, which became the world's largest producer of natural rock asphalt and shipped it by steamboat. The town had about 150 houses, schools, a church, two hotels, a commissary and a ballpark, and the company closed in 1957 when petroleum asphalt undercut it.View source →
