Why this spot

1800-1871 county seat and plantation trading town

Platted in 1800 as Camden County's first permanent seat, with a courthouse and jail from 1802 on the Old Post Road from St. Marys to Milledgeville. The collapse of rice planting after the Civil War and repeated disease led the county to move the seat back to St. Marys in 1871, and the town emptied.View source →
