Why this spot
1851-1868 northern gold rush camp
Gold camp on Clear Creek near Reading's Bar that grew to about 2,000 people by 1856, with a church, Shasta County's first Wells Fargo and telegraph offices, and large ditch systems. The gold ran out by 1860 and a fire destroyed the town in 1868; it was never rebuilt.View source →
