Why this spot

1830s-1941 German farm, river and railroad town

German immigrants settled Hamburg on the Missouri River in the 1830s, and after floods most of the town moved above the bluff, making an upper and lower Hamburg with a railroad stop and later a dance hall. In 1940 and 1941 the federal government bought out Hamburg, Howell and Toonerville for the Weldon Spring Ordnance Works, which made TNT and later processed uranium.View source →
