Why this spot
1871-1949 gold, copper and arsenic mining town
A smelter was built in 1871 and the town laid out in 1892 at the terminus of the Deep Creek Railroad, mining gold, copper, silver, lead, tungsten and, during World War I, arsenic. Mining ended after World War II and the post office closed in 1949.View source →
