Why this spot

1871-1880s county seat, faded by 1950s

Frio City was laid out in 1871 by the Presidio Crossing of the Frio River as the first Frio County seat, with a stone jail, a shingle mill, brick factory and lime kiln, and grew to about 1,500 people as a cowboy capital in the 1880s. The International-Great Northern Railroad bypassed it in 1880, the population fell to 100 by 1890, and the townsite was mostly abandoned by 1953.View source →
