Why this spot

1910-1968 strip coal mining and trade town

Founded in 1910, it was South Dakota's only coal-mining community, with strip mines worked by draglines and a tipple, plus a flour mill, bank, school and stockyard. Mechanization cut jobs, fires destroyed businesses and the mine closed in 1968.View source →
