Why this spot

1760s-1960s mountain mining and logging hamlet

Hamlet settled by the June family by 1762, crossed by British troops before the Fort Montgomery battle and by Anthony Wayne's men before Stony Point; residents logged, mined iron and later worked on Iona Island. It peaked at about 350 people in the 1920s and emptied as the park bought the land, with the last family leaving in the 1960s.View source →
